PPP Project graduates 23 master trainers on TB, Malaria
A master trainer-training workshop was conducted by NIBUCAA and facilitated by two consultants from University College Hospital, Ibadan, July 22 -23, 2009 to develop the capacity of PPP partners to integrate the control of Tuberculosis and Malaria into the existing HIV prevention programming in the supply chain companies.
The workshop which was held at the conference room of Guinness Nigeria Plc, Ikeja had the following objectives:
- Improve trainees’ knowledge of the public health importance of TB and Malaria;
- Increase trainees’ knowledge and understanding of the cause, signs and symptoms, mode of transmission and prevention of TB and Malaria;
- Develop trainees’ skills for delivery of effective prevention of HIV, Malaria and TB in the workplace;
- Improve trainees’ knowledge and understanding of the relationship between HIV, Malaria and TB; and
- Develop trainees’ skills for effective prevention of HIV, Malaria and TB.
Recommendations made at the end of the workshop included - the need for continuous education, development of relevant IEC/Support materials, tracking activities of trainees to implement integration and need for research to document burden of malaria. Twenty three participants, who consists of focal persons and select NIBUCAA staff, attended the workshop.
With this training, NIBUCAA has been able to empower PPP partners to be able to prevent and mitigate HIV and AIDS in the workplace and host communities. The peer educators, drawn from different locations and units, will educate their colleagues at the workplace on HIV and AIDS issues.
